At Good Shepherd students are enveloped in a rich musical life to encounter fine art, inspire creativity, develop critical thinking skills, and to engage in problem solving and cooperative teamwork.
Students Kindergarten through the 8th grade engage in music classes weekly, the foundations of which are built upon a strong, sequential, standards-based curriculum. The standards Create, Perform, Respond, and Connect guide students to develop knowledge of the elements of music including melody, harmony, rhythm, form, tone color, and musical expression, as well as develop the musical skills of singing, listening, moving to music, playing classroom instruments, composing, and improvising.
Students put their skills to use weekly as a school community in Wednesday Masses, and optional participation in the school bands and school choir. Student music performances are quite the community occasion and the concerts are semesterly landmarks for Good Shepherd Families.
